After six months without launching any original Brazilian content, Nickelodeon announces the new live-action series The Richest Boy in the World. The show is an adaptation of João, The Richest Boy in the World, a book by Xá (Francisco Abreu), and is set to premiere on Monday, February 19, at 11:50 AM on Nickelodeon. Interestingly, one of the channel’s last national premieres was also an adaptation: Marcelo, Marmelo, Martelo, the first audiovisual adaptation based on one of Ruth Rocha’s classic children’s books. The show debuted simultaneously on Paramount+ and Nickelodeon in July last year.
The new series presents João’s perspective on the challenges he encounters along the way, showing how he perceives the world and deals with different situations. The story follows his adventures alongside his friends Tina and Gael in Vila dos Bem-te-vis. Amid fun and games, the trio faces situations that highlight the importance of friendship, creativity, and solidarity.
Over 26 episodes, The Richest Boy in the World demonstrates how to reframe difficulties—such as in the episode about João losing his grandfather—and explores thought-provoking themes like book recycling, as well as essential topics for children, including empathy, friendship, and relationships.
The cast features Heitor Silva as João, Helena Bougleux as Tina, and Enzo Rosetti (Marcelo, Marmelo, Martelo) as Gael. Created by Xá (Francisco Abreu) and directed by Bete Rodrigues, The Richest Boy in the World is a production by Na Laje Filmes.
